GhostMe ("we," "us") lets you create a short-lived chat with someone you only need to talk to for a while, like a buyer or seller from an online marketplace or a new acquaintance, without giving out your phone number or contact details. This policy explains what we keep, for how long, and how to have it deleted.
Who GhostMe is for
GhostMe is for people 18 and over. Do not use GhostMe if you are under 18.
How GhostMe works
GhostMe has no accounts. The phone that creates a chat is the host. The host shares a link, and the other person opens it in the app or on the web without signing up. The host controls the timer, the Participant Limit, and when the chat ends.
What we keep and why
- Chat content. The messages in a chat, plus the chat's purpose, timer, Participant Limit, starter message, and host alias. We keep these only so the chat can work.
- Host id. The app creates a random id on your phone so it can recognize the host. It is not your name, number, or Apple Account.
- Notification records. If you turn on notifications, we keep a record of the notifications we send. These records never contain message text, and we delete them after 24 hours.
- Technical logs. We keep technical logs for a limited time to keep the service reliable and secure. They never contain message text, and they are deleted automatically.
- Reports. When someone reports a message or a chat, we save the chat's most recent messages (up to 50) with the report so we can review it. Reports are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
- Purchases. Subscriptions are handled by Apple on your phone. We do not receive your payment details or purchase history.
When chats are deleted
When a host ghosts a chat, we delete that chat from our servers. That includes every message in it, no matter who wrote it, and the record of any notifications we sent for it. The host's invite link, with its purpose line and opening message, stays until the host deletes it or it expires. A chat with no timer ends after 30 days without a new message, and it is deleted the same way. When a chat is ghosted, GhostMe removes its notifications from your phone the next time you open the app with a connection.
How to delete your data
To delete a chat, ghost it. If you are not the host, you can leave the chat at any time, and you can email support@ghostmeapp.com to ask us to delete your data. Include the chat link if you have it, so we can find it.
What we do not do
- We do not ask for an email, phone number, or social handle.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use chat content for advertising.
- We do not use third-party analytics or advertising tools in the app, and we do not track you.
Third parties
Apple processes payments and delivers notifications. Our hosting provider runs our servers, and our email provider delivers reports to our support inbox. We only share what they need to do that work, and we require them to protect it at least as well as this policy does.
A note on screenshots
We delete ghosted chats from our servers, but we cannot stop someone from taking a screenshot or a photo of their screen. Share only what you are comfortable sharing.
